New Political Ad Shows Disillusioned Break-up With President Obama And His Broken Promises [Video]
There is a new ad out from a conservative group, Americans for Shared Prosperity, which plays like a scene from a disillusioned lover who is sick and tired of the broken promises. Though some are calling the ad “creepy” and “bizarre,” it is certainly less so than “Obama girl,” the darling of the 2008 campaign, and her racy music video, “Crush on Obama.” Or the disturbing Lena Dunham video, “Your First Time,” which made the not-so-subtle comparison of voting for Obama to a first sexual encounter. In fact, it appears that the ASP ad is a direct response to the image of a lovesick Obama girlfriend.
In the 2008 campaign, the Obama girl gushed over the Presidential candidate — “I never wanted anybody more than I want you.” The scantily-clad woman appeared enamored with the seductiveness of his promises and his image, in a not-rated-for-children video, proclaiming her love and commitment to Barack Obama as if he were her lover. [Caution – the Partner Rating on YouTube says “No mature content.” That is highly debatable.]
The new ad, just in time for the midterm elections, shows a woman who looks very similar to the Obama girl, except she carries herself with more dignity and is dressed more conservatively. It starts out as though it could be an ad for an online dating site.
“In 2008, I fell in love. His online profile made him seem so perfect, smart, handsome, charming, articulate, all the right values. I trusted him.”
It isn’t immediately clear who she is talking about. Then her demeanor changes.
“But by 2012, our relationship was in trouble. But I stuck with him because he promised he’d be better. He’s great at promises.”
The disillusioned beauty describes the actions of this lover, which sound for all the world like she is describing a boyfriend that she has learned is abusive. He spies on her, getting into her emails and texts, and makes promises about someday having money and getting on their feet.
This picture is in sharp contrast to the picture painted in the 2008 election by Lena Dunham, that of the beautiful, caring lover who is worthy of “the first time.”
If it is not clear by now that it is President Obama the disillusioned lover is describing, her next statement leaves little doubt.
“He thinks the only thing I care about is free birth control, but he won’t even let me keep my own doctor.”
Time reports that a number of critics of the ad are upset because of the comparisons to an abusive lover. But that appears to be precisely the image that the ASP is going for, that of a President who made a bunch of promises in order to drag along a hopeful public, only to turn on them later.
PolitiChicks Ann-Marie Murrell, Morgan Brittany, and Dr. Gina Loudon spoke on the Mike Huckabee Show last week about the tired rhetoric of the “War on Women” in which Barack Obama and the Democrats have focused on women as little more than walking uteri whose primary focus is “$15 or 30 birth control.” They told Huckabee that women are concerned about so many more issues than that. They explained that Obama and his colleagues are the ones who have actually been guilty of fighting the war on women.
The PolitiChicks have issued a call to action to fight a #War4Women, in which politicians would agree to work on issues that truly matter to women and their families, things like the economy, national security, border control, illegal immigration, and education, among others. The neglect of the Democratic Party of these important issues is largely behind the recent decline in popularity of the Democrats among women, as a recent Wall Street Journal poll indicates, reported in The Inquisitr.
The ASP ad seeks to communicate that the promises made by President Obama in his bid for election have left women disillusioned and disgusted with the hope and change that came along with this administration. Politico reports that John Jordon, the head of the Americans for Shared Prosperity, describes the ad’s purpose.
“The goal here is to communicate with women voters in a way that outside groups and campaigns haven’t. Women voters care as much about the economy, jobs, death and spending as do other groups.”
The parting shot of the ad targets the immediate goal of the ASP, defeating Obama’s buddies in the midterm elections. “I know I’m stuck with Barack for two more years, but I’m not stuck with his friends.”
