Taylor Swift Named ‘Billboard Woman Of The Year 2011’


Billboard Magazine has named Taylor Swift as their 2011 ‘Woman of the Year.’

Swift, a four-time Grammy winner will receive her special award at the Billboard Women in Music event to be held in New York City on Dec. 2.

The 21-year-old singer/songwriter is the youngest person to receive the honor which has went to the likes of Reba McEntire, Beyonce, and Fergie.

The honor comes as Taylor celebrates the last 12 months atop the best selling album charts with her Speak Now record selling 3.6 million copies since Fall 2010.

According to Billboard Editorial Director Bill Werde:

“Taylor has shown the power of good songwriting with music that has transcended genres, and we’re thrilled to recognize all of her successes over the past year by honoring her with the Billboard Woman of the Year Award. At the young age of 21, Taylor has already made a major impact on music and has been an incredible role model for aspiring singers/songwriters and young women everywhere. I look forward to watching her career continue to flourish in the years to come.”

Taylor Swift is no stranger to being the youngest person to win major awards, in 2010 she became the youngest person to win the Grammy for Best Album when Fearless nabbed her the top prize. Swift has also won ACM, CMA, and AMA Awards.

Does is surprise you that Taylor Swift managed to pick up the Billboard “Woman of the Year” award for her efforts or was the award a well deserved nomination given her recent successes.
