True Detective 2 hasn’t started filming but since the first season ended, there’s been a ton of rumors regarding the cast. Over the months, there’s been a long list of rumored individuals that production is looking at. Colin Ferrell and Taylor Kitsch are on the shortlist for the men, but in regards to the women, we haven’t heard much.
Jessica Chastain was rumored , but that chat was put to a stop very quickly, when she came out to say that she wasn’t starring in the HBO television series. Now we have a list of some actresses that are in the running for the lead role.
According to The Wrap , there’s a few actresses in Hollywood vying for the character of Ani Bezzerides. The character is described as, “a tough, no-nonsense Monterey sheriff whose troubled upbringing has driven her to gambling and alcohol.”
Actresses going head to head for the role include Brit Marling, Oona Chaplin, Jaimie Alexander, Kelly Reilly, Malin Akerman, Rosario Dawson, and Jessica Biel.
There was some talk that Rachel McAdams and Elisabeth Moss were up for the second season of True Detective , but that talk cooled off considerably.
Right now we’re going to put our bets on Rosario Dawson and Brit Marling. Dawson is in need of a career overhaul like Matthew McConaughey was months prior to getting his Emmy-nominated role. While she’s given strong performances in recent independent films such as Gimme Shelter , we can see why Dawson would want to nab the lead on True Detective 2 .

As stated Brit Marling is also in the running, and she’s a pretty strong contender too. Not only is she a writer-director-actress, but she creates intense character driven stories, and because of that she has a very strong background that fits with the show.
As The Inquisitr recently reported , Vince Vaughn is also being eyed for a role on True Detective for the new season.
Writer Nic Pizzolatto spoke briefly about creating the male characters .
“Creating new characters for Season 2 was the same experience as creating Rust and Marty. They didn’t exist until I created them, then in their creation I developed a personal attachment to them. I think it’s the same in anything you write.”
Right now it looks like there will be two male roles and two female roles, so perhaps this list of actresses represents two faces that might make the show, and round out Vaughn’s rumored inclusion and Colin Farrell’s.
