‘The Walking Dead’ Will Have A Gay Character, But It May Not Be Daryl

As The Inquisitr previously reported, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman was asked if there’s a possibility that one of the show’s most beloved characters, Daryl Dixon, may be gay. He couldn’t really get into much detail, but Kirkman did say that it has “been discussed.”

“We have very specific ideas about Daryl’s sexuality (or the seeming lack thereof), and if there’s ever a quiet period in the show where he’s not consistently distracted by crossbowing… we’ll tackle it in the show,” Kirkman added.

Now, the showrunner for The Walking Dead, Scott M. Gimple, has opened up about the possibility of the character being gay. During an interview with TVLine, Gimple said that all of the Walking Dead characters have things that have yet to be “revealed” about themselves. But he also mentioned that the details about Daryl’s sexuality are not being hidden as “any sort of big reveal.”

“The fact that there’s still a question as to what Daryl’s orientation is in season five absolutely speaks to Daryl’s character; he is a very guarded, very closed-off individual in a lot of ways,” Gimple added. “We have been able to see him ever so slowly open up and show the other characters aspect by aspect as to what makes him tick.”

Gimple mentioned that exploring this character has been a “very satisfying journey” for the Walking Dead crew.

“This is a character who is going to continue to grow closer to the other characters, [and] let his guard down, and let them see just who he is, in every way,” he added.

Gimple did note that Daryl’s sexuality “is not really addressed” in the upcoming season of The Walking Dead. However, he did confirm that a gay male character will be introduced, but he could not say when the character will appear.

In other Walking Dead news, the entire fourth season of the series is now available to own on DVD and Blu-ray. An article from HD Report states that there are several different versions to purchase including one that comes in a “tree walker” case.

“What makes the case even more intriguing is that the head and arm move when you insert or remove the Blu-ray Discs from the case,” the article says.

This special edition of the Walking Dead’s fourth season has the same amount of features that the regular Blu-ray set has, but it has the “added bonus of a true collector’s special packaging,” the report says.
