Kathy Bates Wins An Emmy For ‘American Horror Story: Coven’


Kathy Bates took home a trophy for her work in the acclaimed horror series American Horror Story at the 2014 Emmy Awards.

Bates, who played the infamous serial killer Madame Delphine LaLaurie in the third season of AHS, took home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie at this year’s ceremony. Kathy managed to beat out actress Julia Roberts’ turn in HBO’s drama The Normal Heart for the honor.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Kathy Bates was nothing short of thrilled to receive the award for her work in Coven. Instead of sitting back and accepting all the praise, the acclaimed actress was quick to thank everyone who helped bring the series to life.

Bates said during her acceptance speech:

“I have to thank everybody who had anything to do with our show. Last season was awesome, this season’s gonna be great. Our crew in New Orleans worked grueling hours to bring this wonderful show to light. This is for them. Thank you so very much.”

Are you can tell, Kathy was quite surprised when her name was called.

USA Today reports that Kathy Bates isn’t the only American Horror Story: Coven cast member to take home an award at the 2014 Emmys. Star Jessica Lange also added another trophy to her impressive collection, marking the third time she’s received an Emmy award for her impressive work on the small screen.

“I’m profoundly surprised at this, but very grateful,” she said during her speech.

As soon as Kathy Bates hit the stage to accept the award for her bewitching performance in AHS, fans of the series flood Twitter with positive comments.
