Illegal Immigrants: 90 Percent Of Unaccompanied Children Are Actually Teens [Study]

Illegal immigrants walking across the Texas border which have been deemed “unaccompanied children” by government officials and the media are not necessarily unsuspecting and vulnerable youngsters, according to a new Pew poll. The report by the research center found that approximately 90 percent of the illegal immigrant children are teenagers.

Pew utilized government statistics and facts garnered via a Freedom of Information Act request to compile the illegal immigrants study. Researchers said the recently released Pew report paints the “first publicly available detailed portrait of the age and home country of children migrants – unaccompanied and accompanied.” The immigrant children report focused on those who entered the United States illegally between October 1, 2012 and May 31, 2014. The study stated that the number of illegal immigrant children ages 12 and younger accompanied by a parent or guardian during their attempt to sneak into the country has tripled in less than a year.

The Pew Research report also noted a 160 percent increase in that specific segment of illegal border crossing and apprehensions or surrenders. “According to the data, in the partial fiscal year 2014, 22,069 accompanied children were apprehended. Up from just 8,479 during all of the previous fiscal year,” Pew stated in the illegal immigration report.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, there have been approximately 60,000 illegal border crossing by migrant children since last October. Federal officials reportedly expect about 150,000 more illegal alien children will enter the United States during the coming fiscal year. The spike in crossing appears to many to coincide with President Barack Obama signing the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA law. The program gave amnesty on a temporary basis to “DREAMers” in 2012.

Texas State Senator Dan Patrick stated that only one in five to one in every 10 illegal immigrants are apprehended by the overly taxed Border Patrol agents. Unlike any other time in history, a significant number of illegal aliens are not fleeing the truck lights and hoof beats of law enforcement officers, but running toward the sights and sounds in an effort to be awarded amnesty and to garner refugee status. According to State Senator Patrick, Texas now has about 100,000 illegal immigrant gang members.

As previously reported by The Inqusitr, MS-13 gang members are among the illegal immigrants being held at Texas border facilities. The young males who admitted to being in the gang are also reportedly attempting to recruit younger unaccompanied children into their drug-running group. Border Patrol agents say their hands are tied to separate the members of the deadly gang from the younger boys or to schedule them for immediate deportation because MS-13 members claim to be minors themselves.

The lawmaker also maintains that more illegal immigrants are entering his state each week than babies born in Texas during the same time frame. Governor Rick Perry has ordered Texas National Guard troops to the border to help secure the area. Tens of thousands of the governor’s Facebook followers from around the country are applauding the decision and encouraging him to do more to secure the border in the wake of presumed inaction by the Obama administration and the federal government as a whole.
