Nicki Minaj Escapes Iggy Azalea Controversy Behind Roots Backed 4th Of July Show

In the end, it’s all about the music for Nicki Minaj.

After igniting a war of words between herself and Australian rapper Iggy Azalea recently, Minaj settled back onstage for a free Fourth of July concert Friday in Philadelphia. Nicki shared the stage with pop superstar Ed Sheeran, while the Roots served as house band for both acts.

The often controversial Nicki Minaj started the apparent feud with Iggy Azalea following a win at the BET Awards for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist. And while the talk from that ceremony should have been the fact that Nicki has won the award five years in a row, instead, everyone was buzzing about the apparent jab at fellow female rapper Azalea.

“What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj,” she said at the ceremony, “is when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it,” a statement many felt was directed at Iggy and the rumor that she uses ghost writers on her songs.

Minaj however, took to her Twitter account to clarify her remarks. In a series of tweets, Nicki claims that her speech at the BET Awards were not directed toward Azalea at all and that media has chosen to put words in her mouth:

Azalea meanwhile, as reported by The Inquisitr, was apparently not bothered by the verbal jab. Iggy took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the supposed feud with Nicki Minaj that started at the BET Awards:

“I have to say the general explosion of pettiness online in the last few days is hard to ignore and honestly… lame. If I had won the BET award that would’ve been great but it wasn’t my year and I don’t mind — so you shouldn’t either.”

Azalea also contended that she was in fact “unbothered” by Minaj’s speech at the BET Awards. Perhaps her final say on the matter came in the form of the caption associated with the pic:

“This is my mind state about everything & the only time I’m ever going to refer to this again so go nuts guys, Enjoy it. Ps. If you squint exxxtra hard you can see tiny elves having illuminati meetings between the lines in my notes app too.”
