James Rodriguez In Tears, Consoled By Brazilian David Luiz After Losing Quarterfinal [Photo]
In one of the most touching photos captured at the 2014 World Cup, James Rodriguez — the fantastic Colombian forward — was comforted by the rivals from Brazil, who had just defeated his team and sent him home. The 22-year-old couldn’t hide his disappointment and broke down in tears at the end of the match. That is when the moving moment happened.
Proving how much this match meant, not only to fans but to the players that battled so hard at the Estádio Castelão in Fortaleza, James — as the #10 for Colombia is known — cried after losing to Brazil. It was Colombia’s first defeat in this World Cup, following an incredible campaign that captured the world’s imagination.
But today, the lack of experience and Brazil’s defense proved too much for the talented James Rodriguez, and now he is headed home to watch the rest of the World Cup in front of a television set. When the match was over, the usually exuberant Rodriguez wasn’t happy and two Brazilian players came over to offer some comfort.
It was almost impossible not to be moved by the images of James Rodriguez’s tears as he exchanged shirts with David Luiz from Brazil. The magnitude of what Colombia had gone through was just sinking in for one of the most exciting players to debut in the 2014 World Cup.

At 22-years-old, James Rodriguez — if you hadn’t heard about him before the World Cup, you have now — became the second youngest player to score six-goals in the tournament. The great Pele is the youngest; he completed the feat at 17 years old in 1958.
