American Flag Act Would Require 100 Percent Made In USA, Not Made In China


The American flag act is entirely an appropriate subject for July 4, 2014. This piece of legislation would require all American flags to be 100 percent made in the USA, not made in China as has become common practice.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, it seems like the American flag is under attack nowadays. One Florida veteran may lose his home due to proudly displaying an American flag in front of his house. One man painted a giant American flag over his house in protest after receiving several fines from the city. A shocking poll also found that many liberals and progressives do not consider themselves proud to be an American.

It’s estimated that around 7.5 million American flags sold in the United States also happen to be foreign made. The Flag Manufacturer’s Association of America believes around five percent of all flags sold in the US are completely made outside of the United States. For example, the United States imported $4 million in American flags in 2013 and 97 percent of these foreign flags were made in China. In addition to American flags, other consumer goods, including all the stars and stripes patriotic paraphernalia, is also made in China. So in an ironic twist we American celebrate July 4 with products made in a country which does not believe people are “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

This is why the U.S. military has already made 100 percent American-made flags a requirement:

“The new rules introduced by the Department of Defense say that not only should American flags be 100 percent produced in the United States, the materials also must be Made In USA. The DoD purchases several thousand American flags each year for use on military bases, ships, and government installations like the Pentagon. American flags are also produced for every military member killed in action, with the flag being given to the surviving family members.”

The All-American Flag Act introduced by Senator Sherrod Brown would require the entire federal government to purchase American flags made 100 percent from materials “grown, produced, or manufactured in the United States.” Brown says this would be done in order to honor American workers:

“American flags should be American-made. It is the right way to honor our veterans and it is the right way to support American workers and businesses. With Ohio companies proudly producing the American flag, taxpayer funds should not be used to purchase those made in other countries.”
