Pretty Little Liars: The Hastings, DiLaurentis Families Go To War

The new season of Pretty Little Liars has set the bar pretty high when it comes to the suspense and drama that the ABC Family show is known for. If you haven’t gotten a chance to get all caught up, be warned, there are some spoilers ahead!

During the first four seasons of Pretty Little Liars, the show focused a lot on answering the same few questions: Who is A and what happened to Allison DiLaurentis? Well, the final episode of season four answered the question as to what happened to Allie, and the season five opener seemed to answer the question as to who A was. So what is left for the liars now that Allie is back and A (aka Shana) is supposedly dead? Looks like a family feud is about to become the center of attention, one between the Hastings Family and the DiLaurentis Family.

While there are a few different plot twists going on in the Pretty Little Liars story, including Aria’s guilt over killing Shana, Hannah’s identity crisis and a possible new romance for Emily, it would seem like the family drama between the Hastings and the DiLaurentis family is becoming a focal point for season five.

What has the two families at odds? Well, besides the fact that Mr. Hastings has a child on both sides of the fence? Most fans know that Mr. Hastings is the father of Jason DiLaurentis, and now all fingers seem to be pointing to him as the person who killed Mrs. DiLaurentis. A mysterious email from Mrs. D which reads “I can’t protect you anymore,” seems to leave many to believe that Jason killed his mother, but he has one surprising supporter, Spencer.

Spencer witnessed Jason’s reaction once he discovered his mother laying in a shallow grave on the Hastings’ property, and because of his shocked reaction, she is determined to prove that Jason couldn’t have killed her. A conversation between Spencer and Jason gets interesting when he tells his half-sister “You can’t trust him,” referring to their father, Mr. Hastings. That seems to lead Spencer to believe that maybe her own father may know something that he isn’t telling her, and Pretty Little Liar fans know how determined Spencer is once she gets a clue.

At the end of episode three, Pretty Little Liar fans are left thinking “what the heck,” after they learn that Spencer Hastings father is keeping a secret from her, a secret that older sister Melissa is apparently in on. Hollywood Life even points out that the two discuss telling Spencer the secret while she is in the room, though her dad finally says “don’t tell her.”

Given all the secrets in Rosewood, it wouldn’t surprise fans if Jason DiLaurentis or even Mr. Hastings was behind the death of Mrs. DiLaurentis. The Huffington Post said it the best, “Everyone in Rosewood is a suspect.”

So Pretty Little Liar fans, do you think either Jason or Mr. Hastings is the one who killed Mrs. DiLaurentis? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
