Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Enlists ‘Hunger Games’ Actor As Foggy Nelson

Marvel‘s Daredevil series for Netflix wouldn’t be complete without Matt Murdock’s long-time law partner and best friend, Foggy Nelson. That role was filled Thursday by Elden Henson, who is set to make his Hunger Games debut in Mockingjay – Part 1 later this year.

Henson joins a cast that added Rosario Dawson in an unspecified role last week plus Charlie Cox as Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as the series main villain, Wilson Fisk (aka The Kingpin). The cast for the Netflix-exclusive series was already surprisingly strong and Henson’s casting only adds to the strength.

Aside from playing Pollux in the upcoming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and Part 2, the 37-year old Henson has spent almost his entire life acting. He’s been in TV shows ranging from As the World Turn to ER plus movies such as The Mighty Ducks and The Butterfly Effect.

“Elden plays one of the most important characters in the world of ‘Marvel’s Daredevil,’ and we’re thrilled to see Foggy Nelson brought to life by such an incredibly talented actor,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television. “He perfectly captures the heart and soul of this series, bringing an added resonance to Matt Murdock’s fight against the injustice in their great city.”

It also helps that Henson’s appearance isn’t that far removed from Foggy’s appearance in the Daredevil comic books. At least not the most recent incarnations of the character which has him more chubby versus earlier portly versions.

Foggy has filled a range of purposes as a supporting character since his introduction in Daredevil#1 all the way back in 1964. He’s been Matt’s best friend, law partner, rival for the affections of a woman and voice of the every man versus Murdock’s grimmer superhero persona.

Daredevil is the first in a series of Netflix live-action TV shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will kick off with 13 one-hour episodes followed by series based on Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage and lead into the superhero team, The Defenders.

The series will be produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios. For those unfamiliar with the Daredevil, this plug from the press release is probably the best summation you can find.

“Marvel’s Daredevil” follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.
