Mike Huckabee: Martin Luther King Jr Would Agree That Gay Marriage Is The Same As The Holocaust [Video]

Former Arkansas Governor, Mike Huckabee, decided to double down on his crazy statements that fighting against gay marriage was the same as fighting against Nazi Germany. Speaking at the March For Marriage, in Washington DC, Huckabee pulled out a letter written by famous civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. in order to say that King would have agreed with him that fighting gay marriage was the equivalent of fighting Nazi Germany.

Mike Huckabee read from a letter that Martin Luther King Jr. wrote while sitting in a Birmingham, Alabama jail for fighting to end segregation. Huckabee quoted King as writing:

“One may well ask, ‘How can you advocate breaking some laws and obeying others? The answer is found in the fact that there are two types of laws: there are just laws, and there are unjust laws. I would agree with St. Augustine that ‘An unjust law is no law at all. We can never forget that everything Hitler did in Germany was ‘legal’ and everything the Hungarian freedom fighters did in Hungary was ‘illegal.’ It was ‘illegal’ to aid and comfort a Jew in Hitler’s Germany. But I am sure that if I had lived in Germany during that time, I would have aided and comforted my Jewish brothers even though it was illegal.”

Huckabee then continued his speech where he openly said that those words meant to him that Dr. King would have fought against Gay Marriage the same as America fought against the Nazis, saying:

“I wish I had penned those words, but they were penned by someone who understood freedom, and understood that there was a time to stand up against law when it has become unjust. Those are the words that were penned in 1954 by Martin Luther King Jr. in his letter from the Birmingham Jail. I wish he were here today to say in the people in the building this one, Mr. Supreme Court justices, Madam Supreme Court justices, your role is only to interpret the law, to make sure that it somehow meshes with the Constitution, not that it messes with the Constitution!”

Mike Huckabee usually has a tendency to take crazy to a new level and he tends to ignore the real story behind those who disagree with his crazy. Take for instance that the widow of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. Coretta Scott King has said to anyone who asks that she believes that Dr. King would be at the forefront of the fight to legalize gay marriage.

Coretta Scott King said to the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force in 2000:

“Freedom from discrimination based on sexual orientation is surely a fundamental human right in any great democracy, as much as freedom from racial, religious, gender, or ethnic discrimination,”

Do you think that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would have been for or against Gay Marriage?
