Kanye West Pays Surprise Visit To Dave Chappelle Show

Dave Chappelle and Kanye West are old pals and have collaborated in the past on several projects. However, Kanye wasn’t expected to make an appearance to Chappelle’s nine-night stint at Radio City Music Hall. Although no musical acts are set to perform until next week, Kanye surprised both Chappelle and audience members when he showed up to perform a three song set.

During his surprise performance, Kanye performed three songs: “New Slaves,” Gold Digger” and “Jesus Walks”, during which he jumped into the audience for a little crowd participation.

Dave and Kanye have a lot of history together as friends. Back when West was first establishing himself as an artist, he made several appearances on Chappelle’s Comedy Central show. While appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon recently, Chappelle recalled his first encounter with Kanye West. He told Jimmy that he immediately knew that Kanye would be a star after that initial meeting.

Dave Chappelle is performing at Radio City Music Hall and this is his first NYC gig for more than a decade. During the opening night, Chappelle quipped, “Listen, here it is. Technically, I never quit. I’m seven years late for work.”

Other acts scheduled to perform during Chappelle’s stint at Radio City Music Hall include Nas, the Roots, Erykah Badu, and Janelle Monáe, but none are scheduled until next week.

The comedian is reportedly putting on a good show too, at least so far as Rolling Stone magazine says. So far Chappelle has put his own comedic spin on Donald Sterling, Paula Deen, and the subject of marriage to a enthusiastic reception at the sold out venue. Prior to re-emerging for this nine show engagement, Chappelle suddenly walked away from a successful Comedy Central show, which included a multi-million dollar contract, and took up residence in South Africa. The same Rolling Stone review also cites a possible comeback in the works for Dave Chappelle, but in his first appearance at Radio City Music Hall, Dave jokes that “I’m just making enough money to disappear again. That sh–‘s expensive!”

Whether Chappelle is truly slated for a comeback or not is yet to be determined but if his success thus far at Radio City Music Hall is any indication, his fans will happily receive him.
