Bosnia-Hervegovina may be at the bottom of the Group F standings after their 2-1 loss to powerhouse Argentina, but they are still the team to beat to advance to the elimination round. Their remaining matches, today’s match against African champs Nigeria and Wednesday’s match against Iran, should prove easier competition for the team that failed to earn any points while managing to earn a ton of respect in their loss against Argentina.

Nigeria comes into the day tied for second in the Group F standings after its scoreless tie with Iran. They should fare better today than Iran does against Argentina to keep their hopes alive. By the time the game starts, the Iran-Argentina game will be in the books and Nigeria will have a better idea of what they need to do to have a chance to advance to the elimination round.

According to a Yahoo Sports report, Bosnia-Herzogovina coach Safet Susic had this to say about his team’s prospects headed into today’s game against Nigeria:

“We haven’t shown everything we are capable of yet. I hope that Argentina will win their other two games, because if they do, then the second spot will be between Iran, Nigeria and Bosnia. I am convinced that we still have everything to play for.”

Chances are, he’s right. Iran has been lights out on defense, allowing only one goal in their last five games, but they haven’t exactly set any records on the attack, failing to score in three of their last five. Nigeria looked anything but unstoppable in their 0-0 draw with Iran. If Bosnia-Herzegovina can live up to their coach’s estimation, a performance like the one they put together against Argentina should be enough to earn a victory in today’s match against Nigeria. If they can take three points today, especially if they can run up a respectable goal differential, they have every reason to believe they have a good chance to join heavy favorite Argentina in advancing to the elimination round.

Whichever team wins today will put themselves in a strong position for second place in Group F and a spot in the elimination round, where they will likely face a dominant French team.
