Lindsay Lohan Awarded $150k In Damages Following Leggings Lawsuit
Lindsay Lohan has been awarded $150,000 in damages from a clothing line she represented called 6126. The young star sued the clothing company for a massive $1.1 million, claiming that she had been short changed in royalties after putting her name on the company’s leggings range.
The company’s defence was that they didn’t think that Lindsay Lohan adequately promoted the leggings and that was the reason she hadn’t been paid in full. Courtroom documents related to the case show that an agreement was reached following a settlement conference between the two sides.
The settlement document stated: “Agreement is reached for resolution of all claims among parties. Payment to be made by Defendants to Plaintiff in the sum of 150,000 dollars. Documentation to be completed and stipulation for dismissal filed within thirty days.”
The reasons why Lohan failed to respond to the lawsuit were that she had been too distressed after suffering a miscarriage and the fact that she was dealing with the burden of sobriety. In her written statement, she said:
‘When I was in rehab, [my lawyer] was unable to contact me to discuss the case. After I completed my 90 day programme I moved back to New York. I have been overwhelmed since leaving rehab and dealing with my sobriety and a miscarriage.”
Despite those comments, the company countersued her for $5.5 million, claiming Lindsay’s “drug-addled image” and trips to rehab destroyed 6126’s reputation and meant they had difficulty selling their stock.
TMZ.com reported that the settlement reached concludes both the original lawsuit and the countersuit. This means that Lindsay Lohan won’t have to testify in court about her miscarriage, which stopped her from filming her reality show for Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network.
No one knows exactly what Lindsay went through with her miscarriage, but the star revealed the news on the show saying: “No one knows this, and we can finish after this, I had a miscarriage for the two weeks that I took off.”
After a longish pause, she continued: “It’s a very long story,” but did not reveal any further details.
