Ryan Murphy Drops First ‘American Horror Story’ Season 4 Hint

American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy has dropped his first hint for the horror anthology’s fourth season.

Murphy told Entertainment Weekly that fans can expect to see hints for the next season around episode 11 of the current installment, American Horror Story: Coven, which is set to air on January 15, 2014.

“It’s not contemporary,” Murphy said. “It’s either going to shoot in New Orleans or it’s going to shoot in Santa Fe.”

FX renewed American Horror Story for a fourth season earlier this month.

“Put simply, Ryan Murphy is a master television producer,” FX Networks CEO John Landgraf said in a statement. “Time and time again, he reinvents the form.”

Murphy also dismissed rumors of an American Horror Story spinoff. In October, Murphy said it was something he had discussed with the network.

“[FX chief] John Landgraf and I have always spoken about that this show is ripe to spin something off, to do something different,” he said. “I don’t know. We’re talking about it. I love this season, I love the cast, I love what it’s about, I love that set more than life itself.”

But Murphy quickly changed his tune once he got further into the series’ current season.

“We were starting to break episode 8 or 9 and we were like, ‘Well, we can’t kill that person off because we need them for the spin-off,'” Murphy said. “As soon as those words were said, I was like, ‘There is no spin-off.’ Because it took away from the joy of the show. The reason the show is successful is no one is safe ever.”

Wednesday’s episode of American Horror Story: Coven, “The Dead,” finds Fiona (Jessica Lange) embarking on a dangerous love affair with The Axeman (Danny Huston), whom Zoe (Taissa Farmiga) brought back to life in last week’s episode, “The Axeman Cometh.” The episode will also feature Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) questioning her place in the Coven after a night out with Madame LaLaurie (Kathy Bates).
