Chris Brown, Fresh Out Of Rehab, Puts Star Power To Use At Philippines Aid Drive

As you may know, singer Chris Brown has checked himself out of rehab early.

Cue the dramatic music.

According to TMZ, Chris Brown needed to get cracking on the community service to which he’d been sentenced for his 2009 assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna. Having been found in violation of his original terms of probation, Brown was sentenced to an additional 1,000 hours of community service.

The TMZ report said that Chris’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, indicated that Brown will remain in treatment on an alternate basis.

“Chris is continuing his rehab program as an outpatient and is also completing his community service in the Los Angeles area,” Brown’s rep tells E! News in a statement. “He appreciates all of your encouragement and support.”

It is with that new-found freedom that Chris Brown appeared at a relief drive in West Hollywood to benefit victims of the super storm Typhoon Haiyan. The event, hosted by former model Christine Mendoza, took place at apparel outlet Brooklyn Projects. The Daily Mail reports that “Chris looked to be doing more hanging out than helping,” but his presence there surely couldn’t have hurt the cause, whether he’s glad-handing outside or stacking canned goods. Mendoza, of Filipina descent, had organized the drive herself.

Chris Brown’s Twitter feed, @ChrisBrown, announced how happy he was to contribute to the cause.

In other news from Chris Brown’s feed, it appears rumors of the “X Files” mix tape were true, as Brown tweeted only three hours prior to his relief message. The five-song EP is due out tomorrow, November 19, for the grand total price of free. Mind you, this seems the perfect opportunity for Chris to do even more for the Philippines, perhaps making the release available for a nominal donation to help the relief effort. We’re just spit-balling here, but for a guy in real need of rebuilding his image on a regular basis, Chris Brown may want to take note of the idea.

What do you think of Chris Brown’s departure from rehab? Can you think of worthy causes to which Chris Brown could contribute?
