Jennifer Nettles Discusses Solo Album, Reveals Release Date

Jennifer Nettles recently unveiled the release date for her upcoming solo album. Fans of the singer can reportedly pick up the new collection of tunes early next year.

The Sugarland singer sat down with the folks at The Associated Press to discuss her upcoming project. Nettles dropped a few details about the Rick Rubin-produced album That Girl during her appearance at the ASCAP Country Awards.

Jennifer Nettles told the AP:

“I think this album so far for me musically has been the most intimate and personal… musically and vocally. I think it’s way more intimate to me and way more personal in the sense that when you collaborate, that’s the nature of collaboration, you’re affecting each other, and playing with and inspiring each other, and yet there are things that one may not get to do or want to do when collaborating.”

However, fans should anticipate something a little different from the music she releases with her Sugarland bandmates. During her recent interview with The New 103.7, the singer said That Girl is something she’s wanted to record for quite some time.

“I love what I do with Sugarland. But I’ve been wanting to do this project for a long time and [I] have been writing for it for three years. There’s the sound we have in Sugarland, but there was something I wanted to do that was a different sound,” Nettles said over the summer.

During her conversation with The Associated Press, Jennifer Nettles described the album as more “mature” and “womanly” than some of her previous endeavors. The singer said this had a lot to do with the recent birth of her child.

“I think it gives you perspective all around, not just musically but also in my career. I think you get super efficient because you have to be. You don’t worry about things that were super important before because you have a baby and you just burn that underbrush out. You feel like a huntress,” she told the publication.

When can fans expect to pick up the new album? That Girl is presently slated to hit retail on January 14. If you like the Sugarland singer, you might want to start saving your pennies now.
