‘Star Wars VII’ Being Written By J.J. Abrams And Lawrence Kasdan

J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan have taken over the responsibility of writing Star Wars VII. Originally tied to the film was Oscar winning writer Michael Arndt.

In a statement issued on Thursday the A-List director announced plans to take over the films writing duties. Kasdan previously served as a screenwriter on Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement posted on StarWars.com:

“I am very excited about the story we have in place and thrilled to have Larry and J.J. working on the script. There are very few people who fundamentally understand the way aStar Wars’ story works like Larry, and it is nothing short of incredible to have him even more deeply involved in its return to the big screen. J.J. of course is an incredible storyteller in his own right. Michael Arndt has done a terrific job bringing us to this point and we have an amazing filmmaking and design team in place already prepping for production.”

Last November it was revealed that Michael Arndt had been tapped to write Star Wars Episode VII after word surfaced that he had already created a treatment for a trilogy of new Star Wars films. Arndt is best known for writing Little Miss Sunshine and Toy Story 3.

Star Wars Episode VII is expected to start shooting in the spring at Pinewood Studios. The movie is being set for a highly anticipated 2015 release.

The new Disney controlled film is being produced by J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk. Serving as executive producers are Tommy Harper and Jason McGatlin.

Once again creating the score for the new movie is Star Wars regular John Williams.
