Kelly Clarkson’s mother said she is “fine” with the fact that she wasn’t invited to her daughter’s wedding.
Clarkson married music manager Brandon Blackstock at Blackberry Farm in Walland, Tennessee Saturday. The only guests were Blackstock’s children, 12-year-old Savannah and 6-year-old Seth, from his first marriage.
Clarkson’s mother, Jeanne Taylor, told Celebuzz the family understood why they were left off the guest list , and that they were OK with it.
“[Kelly] was so afraid we might be upset,” Taylor said. “But we were fine with it. I had known that she was under a lot of stress. And we just wanted her to be happy and not stressed out. I think the biggest thing for us to do was to allow her to do what she wanted to do.”
In August, Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock decided to cancel their wedding and elope . The decision came shortly after the 31-year-old American Idol winner said she was “so over” wedding planning.
“We so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were like, ‘So, we change our minds and we want to elope,’” Clarkson said. “We just got so overwhelmed by it – all the decisions.”
Clarkson said they broke the news to friends and family when they sent out their engagement photos.
“[We] said, ‘Thank you so much for understanding, but it’s just going to be me and Brandon and his two kids and the minister,” she said.
Kelly Clarkson’s mother said she understood that her daughter and new son-in-law had a lot on their plates because of their busy schedules.
“She said they were just so overwhelmed with the tour and they just decided to elope,” Taylor said. “But she didn’t want to hurt our feelings. She has had a lot on her plate and I’ve seen her schedule for the next month and Christmas.”
Jeanne Taylor said the couple made a wedding video and that Clarkson said she cried through the whole ceremony.
“She’s really emotional like that,” Taylor said. “She’s now glad she didn’t do it in front of a lot of people because then she’d be embarrassed.”
Taylor also said her daughter will be a great mother, and that she’s “been trying really hard with Brandon’s kids.” Kelly Clarkson previously said that she “digs” the mom thing, and that she’s a hard mom just like her mother.
