Colt Lyerla Leaves No. 2 Oregon, Cites Personal Reasons

Colt Lyerla was suspended by Oregon Ducks coach Mark Helfrich for one game after violating team rules and now he has withdrawn from the organization.

The announcement, posted on the Ducks athletics website, made it clear that Lyerla was leaving for undisclosed personal reasons, and not because the tight end was suspended by his coach. We still don’t know the original nature of the team rules violation.

On the website Lyerla writes: “I love everyone at Oregon; everyone’s on good terms, I believe. Just for my own benefit, it was time to move on.”

Speaking to GoDucks.com Lyerla said he will most certainly pursue an NFL career.

The one game suspension was Colt Lyerla’s second miss of the season after he became ill and skipped out on his teams 59-14 victory over Tennessee.

Oregon does not disclose injuries or other personal matters which explains why “circumstances” was listed as Lyerla’s decision for leaving the team.

Lyerla caught three passes for 26 years this season. Over his short-lived college career he has racked up 34 passes for 565 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Coach Helfrich also spoke with GoDucks and said, “We wish Colt nothing but the best in the future, and will support him in any way we can.”

Lyerla is a distraction the Ducks can afford to lose. Over the summer he drew plenty of controversy after giving in to conspiracy theories that the children of Sandy Hook Elementary School were gunned down in some sort of false flag setup by the US government. Following his tweets the school was forced to issue the following public statement:

“Twitter posts attributed to student-athlete Colt Lyerla concerning the tragedy at Sandy Hook are insensitive and offensive, especially those devastated by the shootings, and we have communicated as much to Colt.”

We don’t know what “personal reasons” Colt Lyerla has for missing games but he cited the same reason for missing several days of fall camp during his sophomore year.

Do you think Colt Lyerla will be missed by the Oregon Ducks?
