Although the prices revealed after the iPhone 5S teardown might make you barf, as well. The overall cost of the 16GB iPhone 5S was only $199 and the 64GB iPhone 5S was $218. Yet those two editions of the iPhone 5S sell for $649 and $849, respectively.

The iPhone 5C teardown revealed it costs between $173 and $183 to put a little color in the old iPhone 5 design. There’s also a $7 assembly fee, but who’s counting that?

As might be expected the iPhone 5S screen is the most expensive part in the iPhone 5S teardown, which is $41 after all related parts are considered. The iPhone 5S screen is actually manufactured by several companies including Sharp, LG, and Japan Display.

The iPhone 5S teardown revealed when the iPhone 5S is compared to the iPhone 5 they are physically the same iPhone internally. The biggest physical change is the iPhone 5S TouchID fingerprint scanner, which has a new wire running internally from the home button. The iPhone 5S A7 CPU and the iSight camera is of course quite an upgrade but otherwise the hardware layout is about the same.

Are you surprised the iPhone 5S teardown cost is so low compared to the retail price point?
