AT&T Giving Away MicroCells To “Top 7.5%” Of Customers

AT&T Wireless has announced that they are going live with their 3G MicroCells program. The cells are used in tandem with a users phone, allowing them to up their reception levels in areas with poor coverage such as inside buildings and homes.

As of January 23rd the units will be made available for free to the “top 7.5 percent of 3G wireless customers identified as likely to experience poor in-building coverage at home or in small offices.”

Those customers who qualify will receive a discount code in the mail which they can then bring to their nearest AT&T store to receive their free MicroCell.

As with all cellular giveaways, there is a catch, users must be willing to sign a new one year contract to receive the $199.99 units. If a customer cuts out early they must pay the $199.99, minus $16.67 for each month of use.

It will be interesting to see which areas AT&T Wireless considers to have bad reception problems.
