Facebook’s new revenue stream: $873 million from spammer

facebook spammer

Facebook has won $873 million in a case against a spammer under the CAN-SPAM Act.

Facebook charged that Adam Guerbuez, Atlantis Blue Capital and 25 other people falsely obtained login information for Facebook users and then sent spam to their friends. Guerbuez send out more than 4 million messages that included promotions for marijuana.

The judgment included injunctions preventing Guerbuez and his friends from accessing any Facebook data in the future.

The finding is said to be a record high judgment under the CAN-SPAM Act. Facebook said though that the judgment may be difficult to collect, so investors may not see a nice $873 million spike in revenue any time shortly.
