Cody Rhodes: WWE Star Getting Married, Taking A Break From The Ring

Cody Rhodes is getting married this week, so it seems convenient that on WWE Monday Night Raw he lost a match that will have his “career ended” and put the WWE star out of the ring for a while.

In 2012, Rhodes proposed to girlfriend Brandi Reed, a former developmental talent in the WWE working under the name Eden Stiles. After toiling away in FCW, she worked as a ring announcer on the NXT and Superstars rosters before asking for her release in 2011.

Reed announced her engagement to Cody Rhodes on Twitter back in November, showing off her engagement ring.

On the September 2 episode of WWE Monday Night Raw, Triple H and Randy Orton discussed the wedding with Rhodes in a backstage sequence.

The wedding could explain the outcome of Monday night’s match between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. The two fought a “career-threatening match,” and, after coming close to beating Orton with his Cross Rhodes move, The Viper ended the match with an RKO.

After the match, Triple H mocked Rhodes and fired him. Though there was no official word if Rhodes is actually leaving WWE, indications seem to point to him taking some time off for his wedding and honeymoon.

It seems unlikely that WWE would send Rhodes packing for good. Born Cody Garrett Runnels, the 28-year-old wrestler comes from a strong pedigree. His father is Dusty Rhodes and his half-brother is Dustin Rhodes, both professional wrestlers.

The WWE has also tapped Rhodes as a marketing point for the league in the past. In 2009, he was picked as one of the faces for the Gillette “Be a Superstar” campaign that also featured Chris Jericho and John Cena.

While Cody Rhodes will eventually return to the WWE ring, his new wife likely won’t. Brandi Reed said upon leaving the company that she had other goals she wanted to reach, and her Twitter page now lists her as a model and owner of a company called Confection Swimwear Inc.
