Twitter Troll Outed When Someone Threatens To Tell Mom
Twitter trolls, we all know them. One of them learned a hard lesson when someone threatened to tell his mom.
If you use Twitter regularly, chances are you know one or two trolls. I know I do. The nasty language full of insults when they feel you are talking about them, even if you are not.
One such individual was outed on the social media site when the table turned on him and his true identity was discovered. Someone then said they would tell mommy dearest.
According to the Irish Times, TV historian Mary Beard appeared on Jeremy Vine’s BBC Radio 2 show.
A man by the name of Oliver Eric Rawlings decided to tweet that Mary was a “filthy old slut” and made less than kind remarks about her body, which the publication has chosen not to repeat, so neither will we.
The Twitter troll was outed when Beard retweeted his nasty tweet in hopes that someone who knew him would out him.
Liberal Conspiracy reported that the show’s host @TheJeremyVine came to her defense, but Rawlings didn’t back down tweeting,
“I am no idiot, @TheJeremyVine I’m not sad, Twitter is my voice. Look at my face? What do you think?”
But then, what got Rawlings changing his tune was a tweet sent by John Wilson @tug. Apparently Wilson actually knew Rawlings’ mother. Gotcha!
@wmarybeard Mary, If you would like to send a copy @Rawlings153’s tweet to his mother, Joanne. I’d be happy to give you the postal address
— John Wilson (@tug) July 29, 2013
To which the classy Mary Beard responded,
@tug @Rawlings153 I’ll give him a few hours to apologise and take it down. Optimist.

What is more, Jim Waterson tweeted the following, which makes the troll look even less smart (we’ll be kind),
@theJeremyVine @Rawlings153 @wmarybeard Unusually dense given his personal website whois is tied to full name, address and contact details.

Magically, Rawlings’ tune seemed to turn desperate, when he tweeted,
“I’ve sincerely apologized to @wmarybeard @theJeremyvine. I was wrong and very rude. Hope this can be forgotten and forgiven. xxx”
Hilarious, isn’t it?
And then, “I feel this has been a good lesson for me. Thanks 4 showing me the error of my ways. I wish you both all the best.”
Unfortunately, we cannot put up the actual tweets, since Rawlings deleted his Twitter account in shame and even his website.
Let us hope this is a lesson to all those trolls lurking in Twitter (you know who you are).
Vine later tweeted about the incident,
A TROLL’S DAY OUT. How one attacked Mary Beard, got rumbled, apologised (and is probably still grounded by his mum): http://t.co/9nO8YZH5T2

With more comments for Vine,
The TL of @Rawlings153 is hilarious. Tweets abuse at Mary Beard and then issues a grovelling apology when someone threatens to tell his mum.

Was this a good way to out the Twitter troll, Oliver Eric Rawlings? Would you have done something different?
