Chase online banking down for nearly a day now, company cites ‘technical problem’

Chase customers have been hindered in performing basic online banking procedures over the last 24 hours, as their internet site has been down due to an unspecified technical error.

Customers of the mega-bank, the second largest in the US, will probably be displeased to hear that a spokesman for Chase says there is no prognosis on when online banking will become available again:

“We are working on a technical issue,” Tom Kelly, a spokesman for the New York-based bank, said in an interview. The site has been down “since overnight,” said Kelly, who couldn’t estimate when service would be restored.

Kelly helpfully added that customers can visit the bank or use Chase by phone to do the things they would otherwise do using Chase’s online banking service, and the screenshot above shows the company’s cheerful message to “try again later.” CEO Jamie Dimon acknowledged the lengthy and embarrassing snafu at a presentation to investors today, but stopped short of indicating when customers can expect access again.

“I know our system is down today,” Dimon said at the conference. “I apologize for that.”
