2010 Oakland Raiders Preview

We keep hearing Oakland Raiders Head Coach Tom Cable say the goal is to be a playoff team. In many ways it reminds me of when Matt Millen came to Detroit and said the Super Bowl was the goal. In my mind the goal for the Raiders should be to get the right personnel, and I think a strong 2010 draft class was a big step towards that goal. However this team remains one that is rebuilding and the biggest positive here is Jamarcus Russell is gone and the organization can move from that mistake.

It looks like Jason Campbell will lead the Raider offense in 2010. He does have Michael Bush and Darren McFadden in the backfield and he can lean on them to get those tough yards. Darius Heyward-Bey, Jacoby Ford, Chaz Schilens, and TE Zach Miller make up the wide out corps. I see them as a under performing unit, but they have some potential. The O line is set with Bruce Campbell making a push to start at RG.

Adding MLB Rolando McClain via the draft was a great move for this team. They also added DT Lamarr Houston to the D line and I like that move as well. He should pair very well will DE Richard Seymour. Overall I think the LB corps will be improved as all three starters have impact potential. Nnamdi Asomugha will be one of the corners, but the secondary seems to be a little under average.

On special teams Sebastian Janikowski will be the kicker, with Shane Lechler handling the punting duties. It looks like RB Rock Cartwright will return kicks, with WR Johnnie Lee Higgins returning punts.
