Pioneer VSX-1020-K AV Receiver Gets iPhone App, Pre-Order Status
I get a little sick to my stomach when I see really crappy iPhone components show up at the likes of Walmart and Target, after all, why would I want to plug my $199 phone into a $100 piece of crap boombox. Thankfully Pioneer agrees and now have pre-order sales for the Pioneer VSX-1019AH.
The 1019AH features all the standard AV features we’ve come to love from Pioneer, while also offering a custom iPhone / iPod touch app for audiophiles in love with their hardware.
So what are those “standard” features? How about HD video, HD audio, wireless and analog components and 1080P video conversion. The system also offers 1080p upscaling, 3D video support and a nice looking design that should fit into your system nicely.
Amazon shows the system currently for pre-order at a decent $549. [Engadget]

Seems like a better approach to “Works with iPhone” would be to use Bluetooth. For Audio use A2DP. For the other nifty controls from the app you could send them via a simple serial protocol using SPP. That way, I don’t have to tie my phone to my entertainment center. Also, I can use my phone as a remote via the app..
