Skyfire Labs Takes $13 Million

Skyfire Labs has taken $13 million Series B in a round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners that included previous investors Matrix Partners and Trinity Ventures. The new round takes Skyfire’s total funding to $17.8 million.

Skyfire is a free, downloadable mobile web browser that delivers full featured browsing to any compatiable mobile phone. The browser is focused on speed and simplicity, and supports embedded content such as Flash 9, QuickTime, Java and more. The end result is that users can surf YouTube videos or other rich content from their phones and with a full visual experience, not a cut down made for mobile alternative.

Skyfire currently supports Windows Mobile 5 and 6, with Symbian support being worked on.

The company will use the funds towards the “further rollout of its flagship browser.” As part of the deal Jake Seid, Managing Director of Lightspeed, will join the Skyfire Board of Directors.

Demo video below, and it’s an impressive looking product.
