The top five Super Bowl performances of all time

Of course these will be up for debate, but looking at stats, and remembering how these performances played out I think we can build a pretty good list of the Top Five Super Bowl Performances of all time. Now I am talking about game performances, later in teh week we will do moments, so David Tyree does not make this list, but he will make the moment’s list. With that being said let us take a look at teh five best Super Bowl Performances of all time:

1. Steve Young, Super Bowl 29- Young finally got the monkey off his back with a Super Bowl win. Sure he was there for two of Joe Montana’s Super Bowl wins, but this one was his and it proved he was a Hall of Fame QB in his own right. He went 24-36 for 325 yards, Six TD’s, and no INT’s. In a word, AWESOME!

2. Marcus Allen, Super Bowl 18- Against the number one run defense of the Washington Redskins Allen ran for 191 yards on just 20 carriers. The play everyone remembers is the 74 yard run at the end of teh Third Quarter that is still the longest play from scrimmage in Super Bowl History.

3. Joe Montana, Super Bowl 2- He threw for 297 yards and five TD’s as teh Niners destroyed the Denver Broncos. On top of that he went 22-29. Without doubt the finest game within the finest Super Bowl career.

4. Jerry Rice, Super Bowl 23-Had he been the one to catch the TD pass to complete the miracle comeback this would be number one on the list. Since teammate John Taylor caught that pass, some tend to forget the numbers Rice put up that day. He gained 215 yards (a Super Bowl Record) on just 11 catches.

5. Phil Simms, Super Bowl 21- In the biggest game of his career Simms has his best game. In yet another drubbing of the Broncos Simms goes 22-25 for 269 yards and three TD’s.

  1. Yep, a pretty solid list. I might move Doug Williams up a few rungs because he did do all of his production on one leg after getting knocked out of the game in the first quarter.

Bud Adams once said the true sign of a great coach was one who could beat your team with his team this week and then beat his team with your team next week. QBs are the same way – the truly great ones could move to any other team (in their prime) and adapt to the style of play and personnel available and produce a winning record. I would put Unitas, Montana, Tittle, maybe Starr and Favre in that category. Peyton is great in the Colts’ system, Brady is great in the Pats’ system. Unfortunately, things are so specialized today that we don’t really have any way of proving what they could do elsewhere. Great QBs are a product of the era in which they play.

Finals soon broke out, and do not know which teams will eventually be a champion, I think that each team has the opportunity, NFL Shopo the key is to see if they work harder in the field who believe that the Finals will be very exciting.
