Google is taking the end of the online communications as we know it defense in papers lodged as part of the Viacom/ YouTube lawsuit.

According to AP, Google states that Viacom “threatens the way hundreds of millions of people legitimately exchange information, news, entertainment and political and artistic expression.”

Google went on to argue that YouTube “goes far beyond its legal obligations in assisting content owners to protect their works” and that YouTube was faithful to the requirements of the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Viacom sued YouTube in March 2007 for “more than $1 billion” claiming “massive intentional copyright infringement” then resubmitted the suit (with amendments) last month.
