Reports: Paraguayan striker Salvador Cabañas shot in the head

Salvador Cabañas, prolific Club América football player for the Primera División de México, has been shot in the head at a bar in Mexico City, reports claim.

Cabañas, 29, is reportedly in critical condition after the shooting and being treated at a hospital in Mexico City. (Some reports claimed the striker was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Los Angeles.) An official spoke to Mexican newschannel Televisa about the incident:

“He was shot in the head… the first report is that the bullet entered the front of his head and did not exit,” Mexico City prosecutor, Miguel Angel Mancera, told the news channel Televisa.

Cabañas is reportedly in the intensive care unit at an unnamed hospital. The incident is said to have been an attempted robbery. There is no word on the player’s prognosis.
