Fark, 4chan down much of today, back up now
Office workers in locations around the world were forced to actually do work today with both 4chan and Fark both down for many hours.
Both sites are up now, but the outages have not totally been explained yet. From beerspill.fark.com:
Thu Jan 14 09:35:40 EST 2010: Looks like we’ve got an upstream connectivity issue. Checking into it. UPDATE: Both providers are now fixing their BGP routing problems, and one provider is fixing a flapping SONET circuit… don’t have a specific ETA though. UPDATE2: Looks like it came up a bit before 3 pm EST. More details later, but hilarity will ensue at a future date… let’s just say it wasn’t our immediate upstream provider’s fault.
Access to Fark was restored sometime around 3pm, but between 9am and then, people complained on Twitter until the sites came back up:
