In a Greater Madrid derby, last year’s La Liga runners-up Atlético Madrid will face CD Leganés, a defensive-minded club that always poses issues for higher-ranked teams. Atlético Madrid Manager Diego Simeone is hoping for a better prepared Atléti side for this match, after they struggled in their opening weekend game. According to The Hard Tackle, they barely managed their 1-0 win against the determined underdog Getafe.

Under Simeone, Atlético Madrid have always found heavily defensive teams such as Leganés hard to break down, as SB Nation reports. In their three most recent trips just 10 miles down the road to the Butarque, Atlético have scored only once — and that goal came in the 69th minute of their last meeting, per Soccerway. Even worse for the Atléti, the goal was made by Antoine Griezmann, who no longer plays for the team.

However, the Atléti are the higher ranked team, and Los Pepineros — or “The Cucumber Growers” — lost their opening week match. They suffered some bad luck in their 1-0 loss to Osasuna, so with a little bit of luck in the right direction, they may just be able to pull out a win.
