RIMM Beats Market On Strong International Blackberry Sales


Research in Motion (RIMM) beat market expectations for its third quarter earnings today off the back of strong international Blackberry sales.

RIMM reported revenue of $3.92 billion, up 11% from on the previous quarter and up 41% from $2.78 billion in the same quarter of last year. Net income for the quarter was up 59% versus over the same quarter in 2008 to $628.4 million ($1.10 per share.) Analysts were predicting $1.04 on revenue of $3.8 billion.

RIMM said that it expected sales for the fourth quarter of $4.2 billion to $4.4 billion, and net earnings per share of at least $1.23.

The company said that it had shipped 10.1 million devices, including its 75 millionth Blackberry in the quarter, and that 37% of revenue and 35% of its subscriber base was now coming from outside of the United States.

RIMM shares were up 12.05% to $71.11 in after hours trading.
