Porn Found On Child’s Android Tablet Purchased From Target’s Online Store

Sacramento, CA — Porn was allegedly pre-loaded onto a tablet that a nine-year-old received for Christmas.

The girl’s mother purchased the Zeki Android Tablet from Target.com shortly before Christmas. It reportedly arrived factory sealed, but it somehow contained graphic sex videos. The third-grader saw the videos after unwrapping and powering up the device on Christmas morning.

CBS News 13 in Sacramento interviewed the child’s mom who said her daughter had an awkward expression on her face. She handed the tablet to her mother and asked “mommy, what’s this?” after the explicit videos started playing.

According to CBS, it is unlikely that the hardcore footage was downloaded to the tablet in the home:

“It doesn’t seem plausible that the video was made in the home and added onto the tablet. The file date shows the videos were created in June, not the date it was shipped to their home, which was closer to Christmas.”

When the child’s mother contacted Target, the retailer asked her to return the tablet in exchange for a new one, but that wasn’t a sufficient resolution.  According to London’s Daily Mail, she “went to the media to prevent any other children and mothers from having the same experience.” She also apparently plans on retaining an attorney.

“Oh my gosh. She’s seen two videos, pornographic videos. What am I going to tell my 9-year-old?” she asked.

Target subsequently informed the CBS affiliate that it is investigating.

Watch a report on the porn-filled tablet incident from CBS 13:

Some commenters posting under the original story claim that a time and date stamp can be manipulated in an electronic device and that engineers should be able to precisely determine when the disturbing footage was loaded onto the tablet.

That aside, what should Target do for the customer whose family Christmas was ruined by the porn-filled tablet?

  1. It might be necessary for the child to get counseling. should pay for that or whoever the tablet came from should pay for that.

Stuff happens, we cannot shield our children from every ugly thing in the world. To sue is ridiculous.

    Completely agree!

  4. Maybe the parents should have used the tablet first to ensure everything is fine!

  5. Target shouldnt have to do anything at all… It was factory sealed, go bother the producer not the middleman

I would just tell my child that there are some bad sick people in the world. Somehow this person somehow downloaded some very bad pictures onto her Christmas tablet. It was mean and despicable to do. Then I would answer any further questions openly and honestly. Forget counseling, it is the parent's job to be there for there for answers and comfort. As for suing Target, Nah. How could they know what had been put on and shipped in on a tablet. Let them replace it after opening a new tablet in front of the parents and checking it out.

  7. Carolyn wheeler you may not be stupid but you put on an awfully good act if your that child can not erase from her mind and she is only 9 ,,9 years old is way to young to be exposed to nasty not ugly, NASTY,,,,,,

  8. I think I was a little angry with the post I put on here a moment ago and my iPad helped me out,,, I was saying what that child saw can never be erased from her mind, who knows what it will do to her,,and to just dismiss it with ,,,,,, oh well shit happens,,,, is stupid,

  9. Filing a lawsuit for every single stinking petty discrepancy is sadly, more and more, becoming "The American Way". Put cheese on my burger when I asked for it plain will you? LAWSUIT! Wrong. People seeking any and every opportunity they can to weasel money out of a given situation.

  10. Refund the money and then have the phone manufactures send an update to block porn from being downloaded onto a phone or tablet

  11. Tell em to move on. This country is way too sue happy.

  12. You guys forget , this was done on purpose someone downloaded this filth on the tablet on purpose,,,they should lose there job at the very least,,, and how in hell do you explain to a 9 years girl what was going on, on that video ,,,please I would be sick just trying to come up with the words she could understand,,,

It's not the fault of Target that some creep at the factory uploaded porn before it got sealed. Go after the manufacturer, not the store that sold. It could have easily been shipped to Wal-mart, Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc. It just happened to end up at a Target.

People are too quick to sue. S-hit happens, explain it to your daughter, accept the new toy and move on!

  14. Fay,
While this is a disgusting way to pull a prank, and unfortunate that a 9 year old had to see it, I don't think you are giving this child (or Any other of this age) credit for the intelligence they possess. A very simple explanation of this being a nasty prank involving sex movies would most likely be more than enough explanation.
