Predicting WWE’s Unpredictable Extreme Rules Fatal Five-Way Match If All things Were Equal

Five of the WWE’s top guys will battle it out this Sunday at WWE Extreme Rules. There is a fatal five way match in the main event featuring Bray Wyatt, Finn Balor, Roman Reigns, Samoa Joe and Seth Rollins. It is a matchup where winner has the right to face Brock Lesnar in the main event at the WWE’s next pay-per-view for it’s Raw brand. The fatal five-way at Extreme Rules is a worthy replacement for the absence of having the WWE Universal title defended on the card.

The match may also get people to dismiss the embarrassing fact that there has not been a defense for the title in nearly two months. It may also help fans get over the fact that the champion, Brock Lesnar has barely been seen on WWE programming since defeating Goldberg for the belt (courtesy of Bleacher Report) at WrestleMania 33.

Each member of the fatal five-way have already had their time to shine inside the WWE’s squared circle. Each of them have taken their turns at calling out Brock Lesnar. Curiously enough, every WWE superstar competing in the fatal five-way at Extreme Rules could conceivably give the Universal champion a run for his money. Predicting a clear-cut winner for the match is not so conceivable. That is if all things were even.

Most signs point to either Roman Reigns or Finn Balor winning the main event at WWE Extreme Rules.

In the case for Balor, he will go down as the first-ever WWE Universal title, who had to relinquish the belt due to a torn labrum, according to ESPN. Since he never was pinned or submitted for his title, it would seem fair to give him a shot at winning it back. The problem is that he would go into a match with Brock Lesnar completely undersized.

Not that the legitimate size difference would be a problem. Balor easily makes up for his lack of size with his speed and unorthodox attack. His quick thigh kicks would be enough to neutralize Lesnar and chop him down slowly.

Roman Reigns is likely headed into the fatal five-way match at WWE Extreme Rules as the favorite to win. He has the size to believe that he has a shot to defeat Brock Lesnar. Plus, the momentum going into WWE Extreme Rules is all his. WWE fans have seen Reigns versus Lesnar before. It was a solid match, but was it compelling enough to see it again?

Somehow Seth Rollins and Samoa Joe will cancel each other out. Their feud has not been finalized and it will, unfortunately, carryover into the fatal five-way at WWE Extreme Rules. If all things were equal, they would squash their beef and fully focus on winning the main event. Both Seth Rollins and Samoa Joe would make fantastic opponents for Brock Lesnar, and for different reasons.

Rollins is a fun wrestler to watch inside the ring. Despite being physically overmatched, he can turn the tables at any moment. The problem for him is that he has been in the ring with Lesnar a coupl e of times before. Lesnar has owned him.

Of all the WWE superstars in the WWE Extreme Rules’ main event, Samoa Joe is a combatant who would not be a physical mismatch with Lesnar. Actually, some of their moves, the few that Brock Lesnar does actually mirror each other. The problem is a main event of Samoa Joe versus Brock Lesnar would be a difficult sell at this stage. This is despite them being a perfect match with each other.

That leaves Bray Wyatt. Wyatt has no feuds going into Extreme Rules. That being said, keep an eye on a potential Roman Reigns versus Finn Balor rivalry. Wyatt is not one who can be overpowered that often and his quickness is under-appreciated. What Bray Wyatt does is offer the most interesting storyline for Brock Lesnar.

Building a Wyatt versus Lesnar match is easy because the former works well as a hero and a heel. Having Bray Wyatt winning the main event at Extreme Rules also affords the current champion the luxury of not having to compete until their potential bout in June. Meanwhile, the buzz can be generated simply by the WWE using the element of fear that adds to Bray Wyatt’s mystique. This match is the easiest sell of the bunch.

What will likely happen is a double-pin. That double-pin could take place on Bray Wyatt or Samoa Joe. It is an untraditional practice by the WWE to have back-to-back pay-per-views with the main events being a three-way dance or more. But when has the WWE ever did anything in the traditional sense? A three-way match helps neutralize Brock Lesnar even more.

A double-pin in the main event of WWE Extreme Rules is the most predictable, from a normally unpredictable show.
