Reason Why WWE Officials Spilt Up Johnny Gargano And Tommaso Ciampa at ‘NXT Takeover: Chicago’ Revealed

Last night at NXT Takeover: Chicago, Tomasso Ciampa attacked Johnny Gargano after they lost their NXT Tag Team Title match to The Authors of Pain, and the fans want to know why the decision was made to split them up. Ciampa’s heel turn was a surprise to most people because they believed both men would be moved to the main roster as a tag team, but WWE has a very different plan for Ciampa and Gargano going forward.

It’s being reported that WWE officials are planning to bring Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa to the main roster very soon, but they didn’t want them to come to Raw or SmackDown as a team for one reason or another. Both men will likely move to the main roster shortly after NXT Takeover: Brooklyn and WWE Summerslam, which gives the rivalry between Ciampa and Gargano three months on NXT programming.

In the immediate future, it’s likely that Johnny Gargano will miss the next couple of weeks of NXT to sell the attack by Ciampa last night in Chicago. Unfortunately, Ciampa is also expected to miss a little time because of an injury he suffered during an NXT live event a few days ago. It seems that there will be a short hiatus in the feud between Ciampa and Gargano, but their rivalry is expected to be very important on NXT television.

Ciampa and Gargano were both highly respected wrestler on the independent scene, but they came to NXT during the first Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament, which was all the opportunity they needed to earn a place in NXT. After that, their rivalry with The Revival over the NXT Tag Team Titles made them fan favorites and eventually, they became NXT Tag Team Champions until the feud with the Authors of Pain.

In light of Ciampa’s heel turn, a lot of people are left wondering why WWE officials didn’t want to bring the dynamic duo to the main roster as a tag team. They’d established themselves as strong babyfaces, they have had great matches with almost every team they’ve faced, and WWE’s tag team division can always use a new team on WWE television the only logical reason is WWE officials see potential in both men as singles stars.

NXT officials did an excellent job drawing the lines in the sand during DIY’s match with the Authors of Pain in Chicago. Gargano taking a brutal ladder shot during the match will only be more apparent as a result of the Ciampa’s betrayal. Too often, WWE officials just remind the fans that these two wrestlers were friends, but Gargano showed his friendship with Ciampa perfectly before the Tommaso betrayed him minutes later.

Ciampa vs. Gargano will be classic babyface vs. heel, which has been established after last night. Last year, both men faced off during the first round of the Cruiserweight Classic in a memorable match that Gargano won. The WWE Universe can expect to see the same quality of wrestling, but their dynamic will also have a strong heel vs. face, and there will be the classic storytelling that NXT is known for over the coming months.

Whenever Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano are brought to the main roster, it’s unclear if they will be a part of the same or different brands. Regardless, NXT officials have at least a couple months to showcase a potentially great rivalry to add to NXT’s history. The brand has always reached new heights as a result of its great rivalries. Tommaso Ciampa vs. Johnny Gargano should be added to the list in due time.
