Thanksgiving Football: Pats Vs. Jets ‘Can’t Wait’ Video

NE Patriots QB Tom Brady

“Can’t wait” for the kickoff between the Patriots and the Jets on Thursday?

Given their ongoing rivalry, the marquee NFL Thanksgiving matchup in the holiday triple-header is the New England Patriots visiting the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Even without tight end Rob Gronkowski, who is out with a broken forearm, the Patriots are favored by 6.5 points. In the first meeting between the AFC East rivals, the Pats edged the Jets 29 to 26. The Patroits, 7-3, are in first place in the AFC East and the underperforming Jets– who are dealing with the ongoing controversy over whether Mark Sanchez should remain starting quarterback with Tim Tebow waiting in the wings — are in a three-way tie for second at 4-6.

Game time is 8:20 pm Eastern on Thanksgiving.

Last year at this time, DJ Steve Porter created the “can’t wait” mashup in honor of Jets linebacker Bart Scott’s now-trademarked catchphrase. Even though it’s a year later, and the cast of characters has changed slightly and head coach Rex Ryan has dropped a few pounds, the video below still captures the intense competition between the two teams.

Porter also created the superb Tim Tebow “all he does is win” video made while the Jets backup QB was riding high with Denver.

If you’re wondering about the origin of “can’t wait,” it happened during an ESPN post-game interview:

“[Bart] Scott blurted his now-famous slogan after the Jets’ stunning 28-21 upset of the Patriots in the AFC divisional playoffs. In an on-the-field interview with [Sal] Paolantonio, he delivered a classic rant, mocking the Jets’ critics and claiming the Patriots’ defense ‘can’t stop a nose bleed.’

“When Paolantonio wished him luck against the Steelers in the AFC Championship Game, Scott barked: ‘Can’t wait!’ “
