WWE News: Chris Jericho Wanted Billy Corgan To Take Over TNA Impact Wrestling

TNA Impact Wrestling is going through changes, and while many thought the changes would involve Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan taking over it is really just more of the same. In an interview with the Fight Network’s The LAW, WWE superstar Chris Jericho said that was disappointing.

“I wanted to see him take over. Sometimes, you have to gut everything… I would have liked to see everybody get cleared out and start anew with the roster they have. It’s not going to happen so is it just more of the same.”

Chris Jericho said that the worst thing that could happen is for TNA Impact Wrestling to go out of business because that is bad for everybody. There are former WWE wrestlers such as the Damien Sandow who have gotten a chance to reinvent themselves in TNA Impact Wrestling. It is a viable alternative for now.

However, Dixie Carter remains in charge of the company, despite years of running it into the ground. TNA Impact Wrestling went from a home on Spike TV to Destination America, which offered drastically fewer homes that carried it. Now, they are on Pop TV, which has even fewer homes. Not only that, but TNA Impact Wrestling had to cut a deal that netted them less money to be on Pop TV.

Billy Corgan had a plan when he invested in TNA Impact Wrestling. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Billy Corgan is the person who convinced the TNA Impact Wrestling creative team to let Matt Hardy run with his idea for The Final Deletion, an angle that has put TNA Impact Wrestling back into the minds of wrestling fans.

After Billy Corgan lost the ability to gain control of TNA Impact Wrestling, they removed him from his position of power. EWrestling News reported that head writer Dave Lagana left as a result. Lagana seemed to be leery about the future of the company as he announced his departure.

“Today I made the decision to leave TNA Impact Wrestling. A decision I do not make lightly but one I made to create a future that I control. In 2017, you need to look forward to 2020 and beyond.”

That sounds slightly ominous as Lagana seems to believe he has a better chance at a future outside of TNA Impact Wrestling. The only way for the company to move forward is for it to continue to change, as the Matt Hardy storyline proves.

However, with Billy Corgan and Dave Lagana gone, the remaining creative team members are John Gaburick, Matt Conway, and Madison Rayne – three people who were running the company while they were losing ratings on a weekly basis. That means the same old stories, which Chris Jericho said is not what the company needed.

“The worst thing that can happen would be for TNA to go out of business. I think for the boys and the whole industry it would not be good and the thing is, I was kind of looking forward to maybe a Billy Corgan taking over and giving it a fresh coat of paint and trying things a different way because I think that’s what they have to do.”

What is the future of TNA Wrestling? The company has once again secured funds from an outside company, despite still owing other companies a lot of money they can’t afford to pay back. The good news is that it is Anthem Sports and the Fight Network. There is hope they have a plan to move the company forward, because as Chris Jericho said, TNA Impact Wrestling is needed for stability in the wrestling industry.
