Nokia D1C Images Leak Again: Is This The New Nokia Smartphone Everyone Is Waiting For?

It has been almost a year since the Inquisitr first reported about Nokia’s much-awaited comeback to the smartphone space. Back in February, there were reports that Nokia would launch a new smartphone “soon.” Fast forward to November 2016 – we still do not have any official information from Nokia about their new smartphone range. A few weeks ago, several tech websites reported about the existence of a new rumored handset code-named the Nokia D1C. Details pertaining to this device were listed on popular benchmarking website Geekbench, thereby raising expectations of every Nokia fanboy around the world about an imminent announcement from the company. There was reason to get excited. Nokia had back then only a few months ago confirmed that they would indeed be getting back into the world of smartphones.

However, after the initial hype, once again, there was nothing but silence from Nokia. Eventually, there were some other reports which seemed to indicate that the much talked about Nokia D1C was, in fact, a tablet and not a smartphone at all. Still, there were expectations that Nokia at least has something up its sleeves. A month later, we have a brand new report which seems to say that the earlier talk about the D1C being tablet was all hogwash and that the device indeed is a phone. According to Ubergizmo, new images that seem to be of the Nokia D1C are now doing the rounds of the interweb. Last time round, while we only had some spec sheet talking about a mythical Nokia D1C, this time a set of leaked images are being shared as well. We have posted the pictures below.

As for the spec sheet, the Nokia D1C, right from day one, is believed to be a mid-range smartphone. As per Geekbench data, what we already know is that the phone would come with a Full HD display (size unknown) and that it would be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 System on Chip (SoC). This SoC houses a quad-core processor as well as 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage space. Users would also get the option to expand the memory further using microSD cards. The device will get an Adreno 505 GPU for powering its graphics. Moving on to the imaging bit, the Nokia D1C might come with a 13-megapixel main camera at the rear. The front camera would be a lower resolution 8-megapixel sensor that should be good enough for capturing casual selfies. The device is now expected to run Google’s newest version of Android, version 7.0 Nougat – at launch.

Meanwhile, in one of our previous reports, the Nokia D1C managed to score a decent total in the Geekbench tests. The highest score that the phone scored in the single core tests was 682, while the highest score for the multi-core tests was 3,299. Just to compare, the top-of-the-line Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge managed to score 1,782 points in the single core test and 4,471 points in the multi-core tests.

Now that we are almost near the end of 2016, talks are on about Nokia officially unveiling its new Android-powered handsets on or during the eve of the Mobile World Congress, 2017.

All said, we should add that all these reports are mere rumors at this point in time and that the leaked images could really be of another, unrelated device. For the same reason, please do take all these reports with the traditional pinch of salt. We will, of course, add more information to this article as and when new information becomes available.

Do you think these latest leaked images are indeed of the Nokia D1C? More importantly, do you think you would buy a Nokia handset if they do come out with some great Android powered devices in 2017?
