WWE News: Bret Hart Says Freebirds Don’t Belong In WWE Hall Of Fame, Calls Them Screw-Ups

Bret “The Hit Man” Hart is developing a reputation for slamming just about anyone and everyone that gets into his sight when it comes to the WWE. Hart has spent the last few months ravaging Seth Rollins every chance he gets, but he took a break from ripping Rollins to focus on someone who just made it into the WWE Hall of Fame: the Fabulous Freebirds.

When the WWE announced that the Freebirds were getting into the WWE Hall of Fame, most fans were happy and many believe that the Freebirds deserve it, based on their contributions to what would become factions in the world of professional wrestling. Bret Hart doesn’t buy it for a minute and said in an interview with Forbes that the Freebirds never deserved the induction over many other deserving wrestlers.

“The Freebirds… never did squat in WWE. Ever. Never drew any money, never did anything. When I remember the Freebirds, they were all drunk and passed out at the gate at one of the airports in my first day in WWF. None of them even made the show that day, they were too drunk to make their plane.”

Names that Bret Hart believes deserve to be in the WWE Hall of Fame over the Fabulous Freebirds include Demolition, The Rougeaus, Rick Rude, and the Hart Foundation. He also said that any wrestling Hall of Fame needs to have his brother, Owen Hart, in it.

There is no denying that those names deserve to be in the WWE Hall of Fame. The Hart Foundation, as a faction, deserves to be in, but until DX and the nWo get in, they are still a close third to those who have been overlooked. The era of the United States vs. Canada proves they deserve it over many others. However, if Hart is talking about his tag team with Jim Neidhart, there are many tag teams that deserve it over them, including the Freebirds.

As for Demolition, they deserve to get in based on their lengthy title reigns, as well as their ability to go from a Road Warriors-rip off into a legitimate force of their own. The Rougeaus are a bubble team at best. As for Rick Rude, he is long overdue for an induction. Owen Hart had a short career and most people want him because of the memories he left behind. None of that discounts what the Freebirds accomplished in their career.

However, this isn’t a case of Bret Hart just saying that certain people like the Freebirds don’t deserve to get in. This was Bret Hart talking smack about other wrestlers, in this case the Freebirds, because that has become his gimmick as a bitter old timer. That was proven when Bret told a story about how Andre the Giant allegedly got the Freebirds fired. Despite saying that he gets along with Michael Hayes, Bret has no respect for the Freebirds’ place in wrestling history.

“As far as their contribution to wrestling, gimme a break. They were all pill heads and, for lack of a better word, they were all screw-ups. They’re not picking the cream of the crop, they’re picking whoever the first person they see on the list and they go ‘he would be easy to fly in.'”

There is no doubt that the WWE Hall of Fame is missing many deserving stars. Names like Ravishing Rick Rude, The Midnight Express, the nWo, Kurt Angle, and yes, even Owen Hart would make great additions. However, that does not mean that a group as revolutionary as the Fabulous Freebirds don’t deserve their WWE Hall of Fame induction as well.

Werstling Inc even posted that Goldberg has started answering more questions about the WWE Hall of Fame since he was named the cover man for WWE 2K17. If Goldberg gets in and Owen Hart doesn’t this year, expect Bret Hart to finally explode.
