Michigan may have broken NCAA rules

Both Detroit Newspapers are running stories about potential rules violations for the University of Michigan’s College Football program. For U of M Coach Rich Rodriguez this is the latest misstep for a move to Michigan that has not gone very smoothly. Rodriguez has been at the center of a few NCAA scandals recently and that is added to the disastrous 3-9 inaugural season for Rodriguez in Ann Arbor, Michigan and we can start to understand how big of a deal this may actually become.

The Football program at Michigan generated some 57 million dollars of revenue in 2008, so I thin we can understand why the University would like to get this program straighten out. The latest reports are from several former players who says Rodriguez made them practice more then the 20 hours per week mandated by the NCAA.

While this is not a huge infraction it is another example of first and foremost that the Michigan players do not like Rodriguez as a man or as a Coach. Since Rodriguez came to Michigan several players including two QB’s have transferred out of the school.

Since Rodriguez was an outside hire, and it not a Michigan man like former Head Coach Lloyd Carr this may be the final strike the Michigan Board of Directors is willing to accept. Especially if he has another losing record in 2009.
