Bobbi Brown, makeup guru, is coming out with a new book, titled Pretty Powerful: Beauty Stories To Inspire Confidence. While Brown has been compiling and publishing books on makeup tricks and application for years, this one, she says, is different.
“While looking at the ‘before’ photos for my last book, ‘Beauty Rules,’ I had an epiphany.” Brown writes in her new book, “Even though I’m in the business of selling makeup, I loved how the teens and their moms looked without any makeup. But I also loved how everyone lit up after the makeup was applied and the sparkly jewels were put on. The ‘after’ shots were stunning and authentic.” The message behind “Pretty Powerful” is simple: All women are pretty without makeup and can be pretty powerful with even just a touch of makeup.”
When asked in an interview what makes this book different than her others, Brown comments, “This book is about women’s stories, to help you understand who we all are, and to help empower other women.”
Bobbi Brown has been a unique figure in the makeup industry for her views on beauty. “Beauty isn’t about looking perfect, it’s about celebrating your individuality,” Brown states on her website. Brown believes that makeup is a way for women look and feel like her most beautiful, most confident self, not about conforming to a standard set by somebody else. Women around America have found this theory to be freeing and inspiring. In the interview with NBC News, Brown comments that beauty is about personality, and when a woman finds her personality and can translate that into makeup, she becomes a more confident version of herself.
“As a … woman, I understand what it takes to feel and look good,” Brown continues in her book’s introduction, “It takes an incredible amount of hard work (as does everything that’s worth doing) – you have to eat right, exercise regularly, learn how to apply your makeup, and get dressed even on days you’re not feeling your best. But first and foremost, feeling good requires an upbeat attitude, confidence, and a wicked sense of humor. And that’s what “Pretty Powerful” is all about.”
In her new book’s introduction, Brown summarizes, “The message behind “Pretty Powerful” is simple: All women are pretty without makeup and can be pretty powerful with even just a touch of makeup.”
Brown closed the interview by saying, “All women are beautiful, they just need to learn that they are, and then they can be.”
