Caster Semenya Testosterone Controversy – Coach a Doper in the 70’s, 80’s

Reports coming out of the U.K. today reveal Caster Semenya’s testosterone levels were elevated right before she took the gold medal for the 800 meter race in Berlin.

Semenya’s testosterone levels were unusually high for a woman right before the race, which prompted the IAAF to launch a gender inquiry as to whether she is male or female. But investigation has shown that the 18 year old runner’s coach, Ekkart Arbeit, is now under the microscope because he has a history of ‘doping’ in the past. According to the Britain’s Daily News, Arbiet was, “disgraced years ago for playing a lead role in the systematic doping programs of East German sports in the seventies and eighties.”

Now the IAAF is not only questioning Semenya’s gender, they’re looking into whether coach Arbeit somehow drugged her to elevate her testosterone levels before the World Championships in Berlin. Regardless of the allegations and controversy, Semenya was treated to a hero’s welcome when she returned to her home in South Africa.
