The NFL preseason schedule for week 3 provides some solid matchups, with some interesting NFL lines, and it all starts Thursday night. The NFL preseason picks and lines are only for Thursday and Friday’s preseason games.

NFL Preseason Schedule Thursday, August 25

Atlanta Falcons Vs. Miami Dolphins 8:00 (NBC)

The Falcons are 2-0 going into the NFL preseason Week 3 and they travel to Miami to take on the 1-1 Dolphins. The NFL line has Miami favored by -1.5 and the over/under is at 42.5. Miami is a slight favorite thanks to home field advantage, but the Falcons have been performing better this preseason. The Dolphins do have more to prove than the Falcons and Atlanta lacks come depth. Even so, Atlanta is the better team so taking the small chalk and siding with the Falcons is the smart play here. Ryan Tannehill blew it up last week for Miami and threw for two touchdowns and a 162 plus yards; so a small play on the over might be called for here as well.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Seattle Seahawks 10:00

The Cowboys travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks and both have an NFL preseason record of 1-1. The NFL line has Seattle favored by -6 and the over/under is at 43.5. The Seahawks have been unimpressive for their first two games and the Cowboys seem to have adjusted accordingly after their initial preseason loss. Giving up -6 is a lot of points for a team that hasn’t established themselves as of yet. Seahawks may end up winning outright but by 6 points doesn’t seem likely; taking the points and backing the Cowboys is the play here.

NFL Preseason Schedule Friday, August 26

New England Patriots Vs. Carolina Panthers 7:30

The Patriots have an NFL preseason record of 2-0, and they hit the road to face the 1-1 Panthers. The NFL line has Carolina favored by -3.5 and the over/under is 44.5. Although anything can happen during the NFL preseason, the choice here is easy. Cam Newton and the starters should be playing most of this game, and that spells trouble for New England backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Giving up the small chalk and siding with the Panthers is the smart play here.

Buffalo Bills vs. Washington Redskins 7:30

Buffalo heads to DC to take on the Washington Redskins, and both teams have an NFL preseason record of 1-1. Washington is favored by -3 and the over/under is at 43.5. The Redskins scored plenty last week, and that was without Cousins and Jackson; expect even more points this game with a weak Bills defense. A solid play on the over here is the smart pick and giving up the points and taking the ‘Skins isn’t a bad move either.

Cleveland Browns vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 8:00 (CBS)

The Browns have an NFL preseason record of 0-2, and they head to Florida to face the Buccaneers. The NFL line has Tampa Bay favored by -3.5 and the over/under is at 42. RG3 is going to play a lot during this NFL preseason schedule and he, along with his Browns, have a lot to prove. Tampa Bay hasn’t looked too impressive for their first couple of games and so far the brittle, yet talented, RG3 looks healthy. Side with the team that has more to lose and that should show more heart on Friday; taking the 3.5 points and siding with Cleveland is the smart NFL pick here.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New Orleans Saints 8:00

The Steelers travel to New Orleans to face the Saints, and both teams have an abysmal NFL preseason record of 0-2. The NFL line for this game has the Saints favored by -3 with the over/under at 44.5. If the spread was lower than -3, then the smart play may be with the Saints as their defense is starting to get their stride and the Steelers offense is still struggling. Both teams are ready for a breakout game so this puts the spread a bit high. The smart pick is to leave this game alone; there is no real good reason to choose either team. If one must make a play then a small nod for the under is the way to go here.

Green Bay Packers vs. San Francisco 49ers 10:00

The Packers hit the road with an NFL preseason record of 2-0 as they face the 1-1 San Francisco 49ers. The NFL line has the 49ers favored by -2.5 with an over/under of 46.5. Staying away from the spread altogether and focusing on the huge over/under is the way to go here. All the trends point to the under and there is no reason not to back that; a small play on the under is the smart NFL pick with this one.
