David Hedrick is America, angry and ignorant

If the town hall meetings have taught us anything, it’s that America has no shortage of people who love to scream about Nazis whenever a microphone is within thirty yards.

David Hedrick uploaded himself fifteen minutes of fame today apparently purely by merit of being able to shout down a Democrat senator. (Why couldn’t it have been Barney Frank?!) Hedrick prefaced his rant on YouTube:

I, David William Hedrick, a member of the silent majority, decided that I was not going to be silent anymore. So, I let U.S. Congressman Brian Baird have it. I was one questioner out of 38, that was called at random from an audience that started at 3,000 earlier in the evening. Not expecting to be called on, I quickly scratched what I wanted to say on a borrowed piece of paper and with a pen that I borrowed from someone else in the audience minutes before I spoke. So much for the planned talking points of the right wing conspiracy.

Hedrick starts off with a levelheaded shriek of “stay away from my kids!” before foaming at the mouth about how it’s not Senator Brian Baird’s decision as to whether Hedrick or any Americans “keep” their insurance plans. Newsflash: we elect officials to make decisions on matters such as healthcare and we’re stuck with that until they’re voted out or in California, recalled. So no need for thanks, Hedrick.

Then immediately, it’s Nazis again. Hedrick gives everyone a history lesson about how Nazis were socialists, which garners predictable cheers, and then inexplicably shouts “I’ve kept my oath- do you ever intend to keep yours?”

About what? What oath did Senator Baird break? What is Hedrick referring to? The crowd cheers, but no one really knows why- loud noises? Because Hedrick is a vet? He’s yet to say one thoughtful or meaningful thing on the issue of healthcare reform, but that doesn’t seem slow him down none.

Overlooking the fact that none of his rant makes sense, the audience seems to dig Hedrick nearly as much as he digs himself. I’ve watched the clip a few times now, and I can’t seem to extract a single point of reason in the whole thing. Hedrick is clearly angry, but about what, it’s unclear. Still, the post is already making the right-wing blogging rounds and Hedrick is almost guaranteed several more venues in which to loudly shout about nothing in particular.

If anything, David Hedrick is an excellent example of where many Americans stand on healthcare. Ignorant and angry, uninformed and unsure. Watch the clip, below:
