Meryl Streep’s $450 American Flag DNC Dress Sells Out: Catherine Malandrino Is U.S. Flag Dress Designer

While controversy about the presence of the American flag at the DNC is being put to rest by photos and videos of the U.S. flag abounding at the Democratic National Convention, as reported by the Inquisitr, a flag dress is making big buzz.

Streep donned a dress by Catherine Malandrino, with the actress making quite a sight in her American flag shirtdress while raising her hands high in front of U.S. flags in the background at the 2016 Democratic National Convention on Thursday evening.

As seen in the above photos, Meryl’s flag dress set the tone for Streep’s speech at the DNC after Bill Clinton made his own rousing speech about Hillary being the first female to ever receive an official nomination from her political party for the presidency.

According to Nordstrom, the Catherine Malandrino “Flag” Print Shirtdress, which is listed as item #562173, is also listed as not available at this time.

It was the same reaction that the shopping public had to Melania Trump’s dress, as reported by the Inquisitr. Melania wore an off-white dress priced at $2,190 during the evening of her infamous RNC speech. WWD soon reported that the dress Melania wore was out of stock.

Now, the $425 flag dress that Streep wore, as reported by Shop Bop, is also sold out. Whereas plenty of celebrities can be seen wearing the same “patriotic print” shirtdress via E! Online, the flag with the removable belt didn’t win raves from reviewers on Nordstrom’s website and Shop Bop’s site.

The bodice of the flag dress was made more feminine by being pin-tucked, and the skinny belt offers more of an opportunity to define the waist and make the dress appear more shapely. The flouncy sleeves were shown off by Streep as she raised her arms dramatically in the silk flag dress.

The complaints in reviews about the dress extend to what one buyer called the “plain thin tissue chiffon” top part of the dress. The complaint was that there was no lining beneath the top part of the flag dress and the consumer didn’t know what to wear beneath the dress with such a sheer top.

Another reviewer said the flag dress that Meryl wore doesn’t look as great in person. However, Streep seemed to figure out the details of what to wear beneath her own flag dress, because her girly parts didn’t appear to be exposed on the DNC stage.

Besides Streep wearing the flag dress, other famous women, such as like Halle Berry, Wendy Williams, and Katy Perry, have also worn the flag dress. The Malandrino dress comes with a description that shows the French designer took pains to make it a feminine flag dress.

“Stars and stripes burst on a festive silk-chiffon dress. Pintucks lend a hint of texture to the bodice, and the layered circle skirt has a playful swing. A fold-over collar frames the neckline and a removable skinny belt accents the waist. Buttons fasten the placket and the ruched cuffs. Long blouson sleeves. Unlined, semi-sheer bodice. Lined skirt.”

As for Streep, her words at the Democratic National Convention about Clinton are resonating as much as her flag dress.

“Nearly 100 years after women got the vote, you people have made history. And you’re going to make history again in November because Hillary Clinton will be our first woman president, and she will be a great president. And she will be the first in a long line of women, and men, who serve with grit and grace. She’ll be the first, but she won’t be the last.”
