WWE News: Brock Lesnar Calls Both Roman Reigns And Jon Jones ‘Unprofessional’

Suspensions have marred both mixed martial arts and professional wrestling/sports entertainment over the last several weeks, and Brock Lesnar finds himself right in the middle of it all. Although Lesnar hasn’t failed any tests, despite being tested more than five times in June alone, some of his colleagues have garnered headlines for the wrong reasons.

First, there was Lesnar’s WrestleMania 31 main-event opponent, Roman Reigns, who violated the WWE Talent Wellness Policy and was suspended for 30 days beginning June 21. Then, the news that shook the UFC world that unveiled Jon Jones had potentially submitted a doping violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection roughly four weeks ago.

The major difference between the two violations was that even though Reigns’ test came back positive prior to his WWE World Heavyweight Championship match against Seth Rollins at Money in the Bank, he was still able to participate. Furthermore, Reigns appeared on the following night’s episode of RAW to set up the main event triple threat match with Rollins and Dean Ambrose at Battleground, the next pay-per-view which, again, Roman will be a part of. Yes, he’ll miss the entire build towards the marquee match and be docked roughly $100,000 for missed time, but being allowed to compete in both pay-per-view’s main events had some scratching their head.

Jones won’t have the same fortune bestowed to him in what is widely considered a much bigger event than any of the aforementioned WWE shows. Jones was also scheduled for the main event, where he is slated to fight Daniel Cormier at UFC 200. It is currently projected to be the biggest night ever for the company. Brock Lesnar, of course, is a part of the card, and as a result of Jones’ indiscretion, a much bigger part than originally scheduled. Lesnar’s fight with Mark Hunt now slides into the co-main event as Cormier will now face Anderson Silva in a non-title match.

Lesnar conducted a press conference on Thursday in Las Vegas, stating on more than one occasion that because of Jones’ removal from the event, that it was “Merry Christmas to Brock Lesnar.” In a more serious tone, however, Brock stated that “it sucks for everybody and it is what it is,” according to the report of the presser by Wrestling Inc. Lesnar would add that “it’s really unprofessional of anybody at this caliber for something like that to happen.”

Lesnar is clearly focused on the task that lies directly in front of him, that being Mark Hunt inside the octagon for UFC. It’s still unclear what the future holds for The Beast as far as MMA is concerned, but a quick turnaround will lead him back to the squared circle in an immediate return to the WWE. It was just confirmed that Lesnar will face the Viper, Randy Orton at SummerSlam on August 21 in Brooklyn.

The WWE was briefly brought up during the Lesnar press conference, as a reporter compared the Jones suspension to that of Roman Reigns in Lesnar’s “other profession.” As noted, Brock faced Roman for the championship last year, and rumors have the two facing off again at some point due to Seth Rollins’ interference in the match. Lesnar did not elaborate all that much on his response, but he didn’t back down from the question either.

“Like I said, it’s unfortunate, it’s unprofessional, it’s just the way it is. What do you want me to say? Merry Christmas to Brock Lesnar (laughs).”

It’s safe to assume that by wishing himself a Merry Christmas Lesnar believes he will receive a bigger payday by sliding into the co-main event spot. But that is now up for debate, depending on how the buy rates are affected by Jones being removed from the card.
